— San Régis · Paris —
In 1857 Monsieur Edmond Petit ordered the construction of the building as his private home. By that time, the Avenue des Champs-Elysées had already become the place to be seen for members of Parisian high-society; some parading its length in magnificent carriages while others would promenade or stroll dressed in their finest attire.
In 1923, Simon André Terrail, proprietor of the famous restaurant “La Tour d’Argent”, acquired this stylish residence, wishing to turn it into a luxury hotel that would be the hub of the fashion, entertainment and business worlds. As a result, the San Régis welcomed many English tourists through its doors, for whom Paris was a highly esteemed destination.
In the 1950s, when Monsieur Terrail sold another of his hotels, the palatial George V, much of its exquisite antique furniture was transferred to the San Régis. These sumptuous furnishings became one of the great attractions of this luxurious little hotel. With its enviable location just a few steps from the Christian Dior boutique, the San Régis became the pre-eminent location for members of the fashion world. Many of the leading figures in cinema and fashion chose to make it their home, with regular guests including Carmel Snow, Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Lauren Bacall, Romy Schneider, Gene Kelly, Jacqueline Bisset, Candice Bergen and Louis Malle.
In 1984, looking for the hotel of his dreams, the current owner Elie George fell in love with the San Régis, captivated by the unrivalled location, the proportions of its neo-classical façade, the harmony of its interior spaces, the period furnishing, and the building's rich history.
The following year, making it a point of pride to restore the San Régis to its former glory, Elie Georges and his brothers undertook a complete renovation. The hotel was modernised and its decor renewed, with expert craftsmen undertaking the painstaking task of restoring the antique furnishings. Under the supervision of the interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, refinement was cultivated down to the smallest detail. Elegant materials and shimmering colours create an intimate universe where every bedroom and each room in the hotel has its own distinctive character, the silken fabrics (Braquenié, Pierre Frey, Manuel Canovas) forming a perfect harmony with the period furniture (Napoleon III, Louis XVI, Regence, Chippendale), and objects of art (crystal, bronze and porcelain).
Today it is the daughters of Elie Georges, Sarah and Zeina Georges, who do their utmost to ensure that the San Régis conserves its unique style and family atmosphere. Every year, the San Régis is referenced among the finest hotels in the world (Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report). It is recognised as of the preferred places of residence for VIPs, celebrities and artists in search of authenticity.
